Poker Player Profile: Daniel Negreanu
(May 05, 2006)

Daniel Negreanu is perhaps best known for being the youngest player ever to win a World Series of Poker title. He accomplished this back in 1998, at the tender age of 23. You may also recognize him as one of the leading poker analysts, regularly appearing on televised competitions. Besides playing in tournaments himself and commentating, Negreanu also writes a regular column for Card Player magazine. Here you can find and read through over 100 of his articles. He very well may be the busiest man in poker!

Born in Toronto, Canada, Daniel is without a doubt the most successful player to emerge from that country. At the age of 15, he dropped out of high school and began playing poker for money. At 21, he had already decided that a career as a professional poker player was what interested him the most, and he moved to Las Vegas to fulfill his dream. Although his path was not easy, and at times he seriously considered quitting, Negreanu persevered and instead devoted himself to diligent study of the game, and since that point it has paid off tremendously.

Since 1997, Negreanu has been the most successful player in the world. By one credible estimate, he has amassed over $5 million in total prize winnings. Of course, this is very difficult to determine and for all anyone knows it could easily be double that. Suffice it to say, Negreanu has maintained a standard of poker excellence unlike any of his peers.

The most impressive aspect of Daniel’s career is the consistency with which he continues to win. And what is more, at only 31 years of age, he has dozens of years of competitive tournament poker still ahead of him.
